the farm

Nestled just 10 km from Clarens in the picturesque Eastern Free State, Baris has been a labor of love since 1989. Every building, the planting of over 100 trees, and the expanding garden have all been part of a vision for something greater. Baris is more than a farm; it’s a sanctuary where birds are welcomed, where trees and plants beckon you to explore, and where each season reveals its unique beauty. We’ve always yearned to share Baris with more than just family, and in 2015, we transformed the old sandstone milking parlour into a cozy guesthouse, bringing part of that dream to life.

With fertile soil and abundant rainfall, Baris is an ideal environment for raising animals and nurturing plants. This richness has allowed us to explore diverse farming possibilities. In 2016, we welcomed our first herd of dairy goats, along with Koekoek chickens and sheep.

the people

Baris is a family-owned and managed farm, now in its third generation. We are eager to explore the opportunities that modern farming can offer. Drawing on the wisdom of our predecessors, combined with youthful enthusiasm and contemporary knowledge, we aim to unlock the full potential of our land and enrich our local community.
